For those who suffer from Sleep Apnea, you know the condition can be not only disruptive to your daily life, but dangerous for your health. At Smile Crafters, we provide dental appliances to help treat Sleep Apnea and get you back to normal.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea is a type of sleeping disorder, the main symptoms of which are snoring and difficulty breathing during rest.

The disorder can be highly disruptive to a patient’s mental and physical health – not only does the condition pose a threat to the person’s life during sleep, but it can also take a major toll on mental health due to an inability of the patient to get restful sleep.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea include:

  • Moderate to severe snoring, choking, and gasping during sleep
  • Night sweats
  • Headaches
  • Increase in exhaustion, anxiety, and depression
  • Dry mouth

Types of Sleep Apnea

There are three main types of Sleep Apnea – obstructive, central, and mixed. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the type most commonly treated by dentists, as it has to do with the tongue or other parts of the mouth obstructing the airways during sleep.

Central Sleep Apnea is caused by neurological malfunction, while Mixed combines elements of both Obstructive and Central.

How Dental Devices Help Treat Sleep Apnea

In Obstructive Sleep Apnea, the airway becomes obstructed by the tongue. Using a dental appliance that fits into the mouth, the tongue can be kept in place and, thus, clear the airway of the patient as they sleep.

These appliances are safe, non-invasive, and much less expensive than other treatments.
